Update on upstaging: Donald Trump says he plans to visit Ireland and the golf course he owns there after a visit to his golf course in Scotland, set for the day after British voters vote on whether to leave the European Union, and the same time U.S. Vice President Joe Biden visits Britain. (See the "Teed Off" item posted yesterday.)
Reporters for the Irish Times of Dublin promptly asked Trump whether he would meet with Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny, and the candidate said he has not ruled out the possibility.
So far, however, he has not asked for a meeting, and a government spokesperson said that "Mr. Trump, like every tourist, will be more than welcome to Ireland and we hope he has a pleasant stay."
Yawn. Sounds like government blank-speak for don't bother me, I don't care.
