Statistics tell stories. The challenge for writers is to translate numbers to real world sentences.
Statistics are by nature abstract and are hard for some to grasp, partly because of the way they are presented.
Data can be dull, but it's a writer's task to sharpen the focus so readers can see the core of the story.
Writers tell stories, and good writers use examples to illustrate the story. But when it comes to handling numbers, they drop the ball. Why? Partly because they are word and sound people, not number or image people.
Equally, some folks have a talent for music or math or art or engineering. Some are expert in one field, and some lucky few combine several.
The writer's task is to assemble the expertise of others and tell a story.
And that in itself is expertise.
